about

M.C. Kelz is a name deep-rooted in the Bristol Hip Hop scene. He made his debut back in '88 with ‘I Am The Poet’, followed by 'Clash Of The Beats' both on Smith & Mighty’s Three Stripe Records. In 1990, alongside Krissy Kriss & D.J. Lynx, Kelz was recording under the name of 3PM. Their releases include the classic, self-titled '3PM/St. P' followed by 'Better Late Than Never. Together they have rocked many shows and made several TV appearances. ‘The First Stroke 1989-95’ has recently been released and features previously unreleased recordings. Kelz has performed at WOMAD, and blessed mics as far as Japan to Germany & Holland, with Smith & Mighty for their ‘Big World, Small World’ tour. Between 2004-2009 he has released three albums as Souljah Clique, with producer, Trz. Two tracks from the Coded Slang LP, ‘Truth & Lies’ & ‘Soil Is Foundation’ feature Beans’ production.

Beans’ first broke out in 1991, DJ-ing at Bristol’s legendary St Paul’s Festival but it wasn’t until 1993, he joined fellow Bristolian B-Boys, Transcript Carriers, for The Haemorrhoid Fry-Up, the groups second vinyl release. They went on to perform and release music for a couple of years, whilst recording for an LP but disbanded before completion. Parlour Talk was formed with fellow Transcript Carrier, Deed. Their tape release ‘635’ was picked up by Acid Jazz Records and finally an LP was recorded and released, featuring extended crew members, Undivided Attention. From that point, Beans moved even deeper into production and recorded his first solo project in 1998 ‘Tape Feast’ (which also featured Deed and Kelz plus many more). The ‘Beanz presents...’ vinyl EP was released through Hombre Records, off the back of the tape album release. Up until working with Kelz permanently, Beans’ has collaborated with Portishead, Gunshot and a list of various artists, via SFDB Records, and releasing self-funded projects, on Down & Out Recordings, B-Line Recordings through to The Numskullz’ label, Ruztik Records.

This album is a collection of the previous four vinyl releases by Beans & Kelz between 2012-2018, including two previously unreleased tracks, picked from the archives.
